JetSmart: Low–cost flights for Chile 

JetSmart is an airline founded by Indigo Partners, a North American private equity firm with more than 15 years of experience developing low-cost airlines around the world, including investments in Eastern Europe (Wizz Air), Mexico (Volaris) and the US (Frontier Airlines). 

In February 2017, the firm announced it would start operating in Chile, aiming to “reach a national audience which has been ignored, and that wishes to travel at a fair price,” according to William Franke, Managing Partner of Indigo Partners. 

JetSmart’s project intends to make Chile a platform for regional expansion, using its routes as well as its operation centers to help establish the brand. This strategy has been implemented in Argentina, and the company is expecting to do the same soon in Peru and Colombia.  

In 2019 the company confirmed the establishment of an operations facility at Carriel Sur Airport, located in Talcahuano, followed by another facility built at Andrés Sabella Airport, Antofagasta, in 2020. These centers are now also offering direct international flights.
