The director of the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (InvestChile), Cristián Rodríguez, is in Asia to promote investment opportunities in Chile. Rodríguez will hold a series of meetings with local businesspeople in India and China and will promote the government’s portfolio of public investment projects.

His activities began in India where he spoke at a seminar on “Trade and Investment Opportunities in Chile”, organized in conjunction with ProChile and led by former President Eduardo Frei, Undersecretary for International Economic Relations Rodrigo Yáñez and Chile’s ambassador to India, Juan Angulo. The seminar was attended by around a hundred local businesspeople and authorities and a delegation of Chilean businesspeople.

India’s Commerce Secretary Anup Wadhawan stressed that Chile is “an example of economic success. It is a strategic economy for us and a point of entry into Latin America.” Wadhawan also pointed out that “there has been an increase in the number of Indian professionals and businesspeople moving to Chile, which shows that our relationship is growing in size and scope.” He added that “there is a commitment to explore sectors such as lithium, which offers opportunities for our investors and is something we have to promote.”

In the afternoon, Rodríguez led a workshop with ten representatives of Indian companies interested in doing business in Chile. They included executives of public and private companies from the infrastructure, rail, energy, mining, engineering and technology sectors, such as ACME Cleantech, Shapoorji Pallonji, Sterling & Wildon, Rites, Ircon and Argus Global Logistics.

During his stay in New Delhi, Rodríguez will meet with representatives of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) to discuss opportunities for cooperation as well as with executives of the Indian giant Mahindra.
