In 2025, global foreign direct investment (FDI) reached US$1.6 trillion. However, more than 80% was concentrated in just 20 economies, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s (UNCTAD) World Investment Report 2026.
To help investments reach more economies, more than 5,000 leaders from government, the business sector, sovereign wealth funds, academia and civil society gathered at the World Investment Forum from October 25 to 27.
In this context, Juan Pablo Candia, acting director of InvestChile, joined the Global Investment Promotion Conference panel “From Climate Priorities to Investment: Accelerating the Energy Transition Project Pipeline.”
The discussion centered on a key question: How can we move from national climate plans to energy transition projects that achieve financial close? Topics addressed included:
Candia participated in the panel alongside officials and leaders from Qatar, Egypt, Bangladesh, Barbados, and Gambia, as well as representatives from Scatec, the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) and UNCTAD.
“Chile has largely completed the deployment phase of renewable energy: today, nearly 70% of our installed capacity comes from clean sources. The challenge now is integration, which opens a new wave of opportunities in storage, transmission, and new electricity demand,” the acting director said in his remarks.
With a strong portfolio of projects in renewable energy, green hydrogen and critical minerals, Chile can show the world how to turn climate priorities into concrete investment opportunities.
