InvestChile participates in meeting of Electricity Coordinator with the World Bank’s IFC

  • Some 40 companies, such as Sempra Energy and Exxon, attended a roadshow for the tender of transmission infrastructure.

The president of the Governing Council of the Electricity Coordinator, Juan Carlos Olmedo, and its vice-president, Jaime Peralta, held a series of meetings with investors in Washington.

The meetings formed part of the international roadshow for the tender of the construction of transmission infrastructure worth some US$400 million.

Energy Minister Susana Jiménez and the director of InvestChile, Cristián Rodríguez, participated in the roadshow, which was attended by some 40 representatives of companies that included Sempra Energy, Exxon, AES Corp and Hydro-Québec.

Olmedo noted that the attendance was the result of the planning carried out by the Energy Ministry, InvestChile, the Electricity Coordinator and organizations such as AmCham and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Olmedo and Peralta subsequently met with Tonci Bakovic, head of energy at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a sister organization of the World Bank, “to learn about trends in the energy transition internationally” at which they discussed issues such as the use of lithium batteries to store energy, the future role of hydrogen, and green financing, reported the Coordinator.

The representatives of the body, which coordinates the country’s electricity installations, also met with PJM, the operator of the largest electricity system in the US, which serves the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland.
